REFLECTION
Dragons have always been a big part of my life, from fairytales as a child to video games and film as a young adult. They are one of the reasons I'm such a big fan of fantasy. I was hoping to use this curation to showcase the variety of personalities that dragons have, as well as their significance to the plot and/or game, and how many ways they could be characterised.
In hindsight I'm wondering if I could've done better. Put simply, some part of me argues that perhaps I've forgotten an important dragon, or I've let biased decide for me. But isn't that a reason in itself? After all, I wanted to also show people why I loved dragons, so I had to pick dragons that I personally liked. The balance between staying unbiased and speaking passionately about an interest of mine is a fine tightrope to walk.
However, I think that I did the best job I could. These dragons, for one reason or another, spoke to me in different ways - whether by through significance to the plot and debating morals (Hraesvalgr, FFXIV), providing challenging boss fights to overcome (Wyvern, Terraria), or fulfilling childhood dreams of flight, fantasy, and friendship (Pokemon and Spyro). For very unique and widely-different reasons, each dragon in my curation opened my eyes to the complexity of a race that, while they do not exist in real life (and that's probably a good thing for some of the dragons!), they are as different as I am from a fellow human. I'm hoping that people who view my collection will come to realise how different and amazing they are too - and if not, perhaps they will leave with the feelings of wonder and magic that I've always had.
