Topic Proposal

For as long as I remember, I've loved fantasy and magic. I blame this on my childhood introduction to fairytales, and through them, my exposure to the beings known as dragons. Dragons themselves are present in a myriad of media, countless countries, and have a facet of personalities. The most commonly-known version are those of Western fairytales that I learned when young, in which a knight must save a princess held hostage by an evil dragon, or variations thereof. Being of Chinese heritage, I would learn later in my childhood that their dragons have no wings and are treated as divine beings and positive symbols of fortune and wealth.

My first true introduction to a dragon was one I vividly remember: That being of the dragons of Emily Rodda's Deltora Quest series, the dragon in question Fortuna. Fortuna was depicted as a cheerful friendly dragon who not only communicated with the heroes - he sang while flying them to their next destination.

My interest in dragons have never truly waned, but have only been recently stirred by my immersion in Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV for short), namely it's expansion Heavensward (HW). It made me realise that dragons have played a large part in my imagination as I growing up, and so I turned back to my time over the years as I inspected various dragons that have passed through video games, posted in a chronological order from when I encountered them. Why? I wanted to see them as more than just evil bosses to be defeated. After all, with my Chinese heritage driving me, I think they range from wise and good, to the two dimensional 'evil boss', and so I hope to find dragons that will cover everything in between.
